Snowboard Jamboree? What’s that?
You know, a jamboree! A jamboree as in a big coming together of all snowboard
styles! It’s a fiesta of fun, both downtown and way up in the mountains that
will be held from January 20th until January 24th 2010.
FIS Snowboard World Cup
This year Stoneham is the last stop on the circuit before the Olympics. It’s
vitally important for athletes since it will confirm who’s made the Olympic
team—and who’ll be staying at home. Plus, Stoneham/ Québec City is the only
venue on the circuit to host four of the five official disciplines: Giant
Parallel Slalom (GPS), Halfpipe (HP), Snowboardcross (SBX), and Big Air (BA).
Last chance for the athletes to qualify for the
Olympics
including local favorites
Jasey-Jay Anderson* (GPS/SBX) and Caroline Calvé (GPS)
Dominique Vallée & Hugo Lemay (HP)
Christelle Doyon, Dominique Maltais, François Boivin, and Simon Bonenfant (SBX)
*Already qualified
Even though the Big Air event is the only non-Olympic discipline, it is high on drama—and it’s coming back to downtown Québec City at its usual venue below the ramps to Autoroute Dufferin-Montmorency.
Stairsmasters & Fashion Jam presented by Tremblay Beer
The 2009 edition of the Stairsmasters rocked to an
unbelievable urban atmosphere and boasted a spectacular course that passed under
Porte Saint-Jean at Place d’Youville. The next edition will be better than ever
and will be held on the same site as the Big Air competition! The designers are
working hard to come up with a course that will wow riders and cheering fans
alike.
The Stairsmasters will be followed by the Fashion Jam, an event that’s not to be
missed for snowboard fashionistas. This fashion parade features the industry’s
biggest names and is designed to appeal to the general public rather than
industry designers, making it one of a kind. Industry leaders will present their
favorites and next season’s trends to a stunning backdrop of music and
multimedia effects. No wonder it’s one of the most eagerly anticipated events on
the fashion calendar.
Amateur Jamboree
And there’s also plenty for up-and-coming athletes. Kinky Rail Jam is a
snowboard clinic and competitions by and for girls, while the Jambo Jam Open, a
competition for teenagers, allows budding snowboarders to hone new skills and
test themselves in a fun environment.
2013 World Championships
Québec City and Stoneham Mountain Resort have been given the green light by FIS
to host the tenth FIS Snowboard World Championships in 2013. It’s the first time
ever FIS has awarded a “senior world championship” (i.e., Olympic caliber event)
to the province of Québec in any sliding sport. The FIS World Championships will
be organized by Corporation de la Coupe du Monde de surf des neiges de Québec
through GESTEV Inc., a young and creative company specializing in managing
sporting and cultural events in the Québec City area.
